WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM

Nutritional Therapy Programme 3-Stage Process:

  • Before your first consultation, you’ll complete a detailed health questionnaire covering your medical history, past investigations, current symptoms, and a food and lifestyle diary. This helps ensure our approach is tailored to your specific needs right from the start.

  • I’ll guide you in arranging comprehensive blood tests (this can be organised collaboratively with your GP or a private lab). These will be recommendations based on your symptoms and goals. Your results provide a clear and true picture of your current health and nutrient status and form the foundation of your personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan.

  • We will explore advanced functional and fertility testing. These will be personalised according to your health history, symptoms, and blood test results. Further tests may include vaginal microbiome testing, semen analysis, or DNA fragmentation to uncover deeper contributing factors to your fertility challenges and dictate where/how to support them.

The Functional Medicine Approach

I use nutritional therapy and the functional medicine approach to understand the root causes of your symptoms and help you improve your chances of getting and staying pregnant. That might include cycle tracking, blood tests, or advanced testing like microbiome or DNA analysis — all guided by your goals and story.

Whether you’re dealing with ongoing fertility problems, irregular cycles, or looking for support during pregnancy, I’ll build a plan that’s tailored to you.

  • Comprehensive blood analysis (for both partners)

    Vaginal microbiome testing (women)

Semen analysis, seminal microbiome and/or DNA fragmentation testing (men)

    Genetic testing (specifically methylation panels)

    Food intolerance testing

  • Stool tests

    Metabolomix

    Nutreval

DUTCH Hormone test (with or without cycle mapping)

Genetic testing with LifeCode Gx or Genova

What is functional medicine?

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Nutritional therapy, grounded in the principles of functional medicine, is a personalised and evidence-based approach to health. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, it looks at each person as biochemically unique. This means your genetics, health history, environment, lifestyle, and even emotional experiences are all considered when exploring the root causes of your symptoms.

Functional medicine connects the dots between your body’s systems. For example, if you’re struggling with fertility, we won’t just focus on reproductive health — we’ll explore how your digestion, hormone balance, stress levels, sleep, cardiovascular health, and detoxification pathways could be contributing. This is especially important if you’ve been given an “unexplained infertility” diagnosis, which often leaves couples feeling confused and unsupported. In my clinic, we take the time to investigate your full health picture and create a tailored plan to restore balance.

It’s important to note that as a registered nutritional therapist, I do not diagnose or cure disease. My role is to support your body through nutritional and lifestyle strategies that promote optimal function. For instance, if you’re living with PCOS, our work together won’t aim to ‘fix’ the diagnosis, but rather help you manage your symptoms and feel better in your everyday life. I may also recommend speaking with your GP about any findings that require medical attention.

If you’re looking for a root-cause approach to health and fertility that goes beyond surface symptoms, nutritional therapy through a functional medicine lens may offer the clarity and support you’ve been missing.

  • Absolutely not. You won’t be asked to give up your morning croissant or stop enjoying the occasional slice of cake. My approach is realistic and flexible, because food is more than fuel, it’s joy, comfort, and connection.

As part of a fertility-focused nutrition plan, I will recommend reducing alcohol and stopping cigarettes or cannabis use, as these can directly impact reproductive health. But overall, my goal isn’t restriction, it’s nourishment.

We’ll focus on adding the nutrients your body needs to thrive and support fertility, rather than cutting out everything you enjoy. I’ll help you build a balanced, sustainable way of eating that fits into your life, not the other way around.

  • Not exactly, and here’s why. I don’t believe in rigid meal plans for most people. In my experience, learning how to build balanced meals that work for your lifestyle is far more empowering (and sustainable) than following a set of instructions.

That said, if you really benefit from structure or feel more confident with a personalised meal plan, I’m happy to provide one tailored to your needs. I’ll also support you with practical guidance for everyday life, whether that’s cooking at home, navigating food shops, or making choices when eating out.

Many clients like to send me pictures of their meals for feedback, and I actively encourage that kind of real-world support. Together, we’ll find what works best for YOU.

  • There are no guarantees, as fertility is influenced by many factors, some within our control and some not.

What I can say is that after completing a programme with me, your chances of getting and staying pregnant will have improved. Together, we’ll work to optimise your overall health, identify any imbalances, and create the most supportive environment possible for conception.

  • Age is definitely a factor in fertility, and chances of natural conception do decline over time. If you’re trying to conceive naturally over 45, the first step would be to confirm that you're still ovulating regularly. If you’re exploring IVF, it may still be possible to use your own eggs, though many women at this stage consider using donor eggs.

That said, everyone’s journey is unique. One of my clients - a wonderful 47-year-old woman - did fall pregnant naturally. While not everyone can conceive at this age, it is still possible, and there’s a lot we can do to support your body through the process.

  • I always aim to work with food first. Nutrients work best in synergy - not in isolation - which is why a food-first approach is often more effective and sustainable.

That said, certain nutrients have strong research behind them when it comes to supporting fertility, and it can be difficult to reach optimal levels through food alone. So yes, during our time working together, I do recommend targeted supplements to support your fertility journey. These will be tailored to your needs and adjusted for each stage, from preconception through to pregnancy and lactation.
